Royal wedding newsflash

 Prince William and Kate Middletonhave choosen three hymns for their wedding ceremony in Westminster Abbey tomorrow, 29th of April 2011, among them our WI beloved 'adopted' anthem: Jerusalem (based on William Blake's poem - 1804 - and music by C. Hubert H. Parry, arranged by Edward Elgar - 1916). More information about this hymn can be found in our 'Why Jerusalem'  link in this website.

Calder Vale WI March meeting talk: 'House of Colour'

At their March meeting Calder Vale WI members discovered that spring, summer, autumn and winter are not just the names of the seasons. The diverse colours  we wear can be divided into the four groups too  - each corresponding to a season. It was an interesting idea demonstrated by the speaker.

Calder Vale WI celebrated its 79th anniversary!

Calder Vale WI  February Meeting 2011 celebrated its 79th birthday at Alston Hall.

Alston Hall itself has no claim to a ghost or worse, so members of Calder Vale WI were able to  enjoy stories of murder and mystery at the institutes anniversary without any anxiety. They could relish the drama.
