Sergeant Danielle Freaney, a keen active member and one of the Vice-presidents of the Calder Vale WI, and also the Garstang's community sergeant, was invited to lead this years the Garstang's Children Festival. Danielle is the first female police sergeant to lead the parade after at least 58 years of Garstang's children festivals . This event has been traditionally led by a male police officer. Danielle also has introduced a new feature to the delightful Children Festival: the participation of a 5 year old boy or girl (this year dressed as a ‘mini police ’) to 'scort' the police officer that leads the parade. The idea has been adopted from the Calder Vale Children festival, where Danielle has been leading the parade with a 'mini police' since 2006.
